A FATHER was physically removed from his family in a Cork Garda station on Wednesday afternoon for deportation to Nigeria.

Lovis Asibor had taken his legal battle to stay in Ireland all the way to the Supreme Court. His test case for leave to stay with his wife Tina and his two Irish-born daughters Omo, 6, and Lianne, 3, was lost in December 2009.

The case revolved around the controversial ruling that fathers of Irish citizen children who had arrived in Ireland after 2005, when children born in Ireland to foreign parents lost an automatic right to Irish citizenship, could be deported.

Mr Asibor’s wife Tina said; "On Wednesday they asked my husband to go and sign at the city centre Garda station. I was at work, Lovis was with the children. Immigration rang me and they told me I should come and collect my children."

"When I got there I saw they had put him and the children in a room. I sat down and started crying and said they should leave my husband alone. I told them I am working and he has needed no social welfare money that I support him and he looks after the children."

Ms Asibor says she was physically removed from the room where her husband was held.

Arsene Wenger has refused to allow Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas to play in a friendly game for Catalunya on December 22.

The midfielder has been named in Johan Cruyff's squad to face Argentina at the Nou Camp but Wenger, concerned about the Premier League fixture congestion around Christmas and no doubt the current injury situation, will not let Fabregas go.

"We don't allow the players to play in friendlies because we have too many games," said the Frenchman, according to the club’s official website, www.arsenal.com.

"You know what happens here in England, we play football through the Christmas period. But in all the other countries they stop and play friendlies and charity games.

"There is a demand for Cesc but there is a demand for five or six other players. We play on December 27 and I didn't rest the players against Olympiacos [to then] let them play a friendly."

Wenger’s message either hasn’t gone down well with Cruyff or the Dutchman hasn’t received it yet.

"I tried to call [Cruyff] back [to tell him but] I couldn't get in touch with him. I don't know if he doesn't use a mobile or I tried to call him in the mountains somewhere but I haven't heard back."

Cristiano Ronaldo has been reported to be the fastest elite player in football, according to a German study.

"Is it a bird? Is it a plane?...No, it's Cristiano Ronaldo." The Portuguese flyer is the fastest elite player in world football according to a study conducted by the weekly German magazine Der Spiegel.

The study indicates that, in his boots, Cristiano Ronaldo is the fastest elite player in the world, reaching an average speed of 33.6 kilometres per hour (20.88 mph), a quality he uses to full effect by blowing past defenders.

According to the study, Ronaldo supercedes Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben (32.9 kph), Arsenal's Theo Walcott (32.7 kph), Manchester United's Wayne Rooney (32.6 kph) and Arsenal's Robin Van Persie (32.1 kph). Barcelona's Balon d'Or winner Lionel Messi did not rate amongst the top five fastest players.

CR9's blazing pace has already been well documented, former coach Sir Alex Ferguson having claimed that "Ronaldo is just as fast with the ball as he is without it... maybe even faster".

Should he train with his good friend and multi world-record holding sprinter Usain Bolt, Cristiano could soon further increase his speed as he has expressed interest in working with the Jamaican and has already received advice from the sprinter with respect to efficiently using one's centre of gravity.

Fergie spills that the Red Devils have the cash for January sales...

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has detailed that his club have a reasonable amount of financial reserves for the January transfer period.

With a defensive crisis snowballing for the Red Devils, recent speculation has thrown Sol Campbell into the mix for potential buys to fill the current void.

But Ferguson has quashed such claims, insisting that 35-year-old Campbell isn't on his agenda.

He also stating that the club - who are currently staring down the barrel of a £790million debt - have the means to make use of the winter transfer window, telling the Press Association:  "It has been said I do not have the money so I want to get someone cheap. It is nonsense."

"I don't know where the Sol Campbell story came from. He has had a great career but he is not of any interest to us.

Ferguson predicted the club's injury crisis to alleviate come January when key players regain fitness, meaning he may not resort to the transfer market.

He added: "I am happy with the players I already have at the club. At this moment we are having a hard time with the centre-backs but I am sure by January we will have most of them will be back.

"The money is there if I wanted to use it. I didn't see any value in the summer and I don't see any value now either." (Goal News)

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that both Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs will be offered contract extension at the end of the season.

Giggs has more appearances for Manchester United than any other player, whilst Scholes currently lies in fourth, 68 appearances away from equalling Bill Foulkes’ record.

“Ryan will be offered a new contract for next season, which is an indication of what we think of him coming up to 37 next season, and Paul knows he will be offered one as well,” Ferguson said. “Ryan is an example to young people,” said Ferguson.

He has humility and he has never changed and I think he is having his best years now. He has retained that amazing quality in his game and also an enthusiasm to play. I spoke to Paul and he said he didn’t actually say he was thinking of his future. When you get to that age every player starts to think about what the future holds for him.

But when you see Paul’s performances at West Ham and in Wolfsburg last week there is no reason to think he can’t do it again next year again. Maybe he thinks he should be playing every game. That’s fine, but I know that’s not fair. We want the quality. We want to see Scholes perform like he did on Tuesday and the best way of doing that is to gauge the games we know he is going to dominate.”  (herepublikofmancunia news)
